04. What to Expect

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR DRUM LESSONS
FOR BEGINNERS
A typical drum lesson lasts for 30 minutes to an hour and may be split between snare drum and drum set.
In the beginning, students generally concentrate quite a bit on fundamentals like basic hand technique and reading along with some basic rock grooves if he or she is also interested in drum set. These exercises are practiced with a metronome (slowly at first!) for at least 30 minutes to an hour a day between scheduled lessons.
FOR MORE ADVANCED STUDENTS
More advanced techniques will be discussed including:
- Level System (wrist/finger)
- Moeller System (full arm)
- rudimental style playing
- drum set coordination/chart reading in a variety of stylistic environments.
All Lessons will emphasize the natural, tension free movements of the joints and muscles.
RECITALS
Approximately twice a year, Great Southern Music hosts a public recital in Gainesville. All students are encouraged to sign up for the free recital, although it is not a requirement when taking lessons.
Recitals are a GREAT way for students to show off all their new abilities for friends, family, and the community. The music store staff and instructors always make these events fun for everyone.
